The Challenges of Bitumen Handling

Bitumen is inherently tricky to manage—especially in the UAE where extreme temperatures add further complexity. Bitumen comes in various penetration grades such as 60/70, 80/100, 100/200, and 200/300, each of which requires specific handling and care.

Packing Types: Drums & Jumbo Bags

• Drums: Standard weight: 180 kg per drum. A 20-foot container can typically load 110 drums (≈19.8 Mt Net-Weight of Bitumen and Gross weight of ≈21 MT including drums weight). Proper handling requires forklifts fitted with specialized clippers. Managing hundreds of containers in short timeframes demands sufficient forklifts, clippers, and well-equipped warehouses with ramps.
• Jumbo Bags: Used for bulkier shipments and usually secured with metal cages. Due to the UAE's high ambient temperatures, jumbo bag handling requires even greater expertise to avoid leakage, damage, or additional cleaning charges.

• Securing container floors with MDF sheets.
• Covering walls and floors with plastic lining.
